Ned Butler co-founded Tallassee TV three years ago.

His vision for Tallassee TV had always been and will continue to be the foundation of Tallassee TV's mission.

He was a good friend, someone who I always wanted to share my successes, and, someone who I could turn to when things were not going well.
He was always excited when things were going right, and he always had a way of making you feel better when things were not so good.

Premier of the Red Hill Show

Tonight at 7pm I will host a live show called "Red Hill". It will air every Tuesday and Thursday and will have a brand new episode twice weekly each and every week of the year except Christmas. There will be live chat with many of the Red Hill Renditions family. Red Hill is recorded before a live audience every Friday night at the old school house in Red Hill Alabama.

Last Tuesday, we aired the first segment of the pilot. It was not well publicized on the web, but we still managed to attract a fair number of viewers. The chat was very active and a lot of fun.

Many viewers came in late, so we decided to do an instant replay at 7:00pm. and had quite a few more viewers watching the second show.

Each Friday, Red Hillis will be pre-recorded before a live audience. The show airs as two segments on Tuesday and Thursday. Red Hill is streamed on TallasseeTV.com as a live show with a host and real time moderated chat.

Red Hill Pilot

The Red Hill Country Music pilot will air for the first time tonight at 6:00pm Central time on TallasseeTV.com.

Plans are for the new show to be hosted live with moderated chat. It will be aired every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:00 PM.

New shows will be recorded live at Red Hill every Friday night and broadcast as two one hour episodes the following Tuesday and Thursday.

Future plans are to have the broadcast hosted Live with Renditions members to co-host in chat. A new PIP (Picture-In-Picture) feature showing co-host or guests in a small live video or an audio feed is also planed. The new PIP feature will also be open to viewers and country music fans watching on TallasseeTV.com who have either a web cam or a microphone on their PC.

Please note: The audio and video are not the best quality in the pilot.

We just purchased a new camera and hope the quiality improves in next weeks showings.

The Red Hill Community center is where Hank Williams drew crowds many years back. The musicians at Red hill include many band members and writers that performed with some of the top country singers.

Tornado hit trailer park 15 miles NW of Tallassee.

BroRick got dispatched by the department of public safety, to a trailer park was totally destroyed, near Wetumpka, At least 3 dead

A lot injured about 15 miles NW of Westside Church.

BroRick said: "I was at the scene, then went the hospital, where there was a little girl (Holly Gant, age 12", who's mother and grandmother were killed, the little girl did not know. That little girl was sitting on the couch with her mom and grandmother, power went out, trailer vibrated, thats all she remembered."

She had a broken tail bone, head trauma, knee injury and also had a cracked tooth.

Her little brother 8 was in another hospital in B'ham having brain surgery and she doesn't know it all yet.

Another guy has 2 fractured vertabrae and broke ribs. He said, "there was no where else to go, it happen in seconds."

BroRick said; "Roads are not passable, TOTAL destruction, didn't even resemble a trailer park, NOT one trailer left."

SES Pilot show.

Tallassee TV is Growing. We are in the process of adding new LIVE evening programs.

Thursday, we will air the pilot of a new show called SCS. SCS is short for Southeastern Crypto Society. The show will be produced LIVE, with a call in phone line, and live moderated chat.

SCS is produced here in Alabama. I have watched several pre-recorded SCS shows. These shows are great fun. Hawk mixes serious cryptozoology research, debunking bigfoot sightings and a lighthearted, at times, comical look at the sasquatch legends.

Spotlight on High Tech in Tallassee

Last week a new store opened in Tallassee. They sell lawn mowers and stuff.

While looking at their web site, I discoverd something straight out of the Jetsons.

A ROBOTIC LAWN MOWER

Now don't get me wrong, I do like all the great power tools that the store stocks, but the idea of siting in my pagoda, grilling a burger and WATCHING a robot mow my yard has been a dream since I was a kid moweing my dad's 20 acres.

Once I saw the auto mower, it took me 30 seconds to call the store.

I ended up talking to the owner, Hubert Boatwright. It turns out they don't have one in stock, but they are a full line dealer. Hubert can get one in a few days.

Another consideration, you have to install sort of an electronic dog fence. It's a wire that runs around the yard to keep the robot from running away and joining packs of wild robots. So it is probably a real good ideal to buy one from a dealer like Tallassee Power & Equipment. Their expert staff can help set it up and get it going.

First, I have to decide on a color. Husqvarna just introduced several choices of colors. Take a look at this:

Next I have to decide which model I want. The low end model requires the human being to plug in the charger at the end of the day.
The next one up finds the charging station and connects itself whenever it needs more juice.
There are two more advanced models with the top of the line model using solar panels to charge up the batteries.

While these mowers cost more than any push mowers, they are less than most riding mowers. I'll have to start saving my loose change and hope my old clunker last a couple more months.

Last October many of our troops came home. They brought with them a fresh start on life.

January is a great time for renewal.

We start on the first day by resolving to do better.

Tallassee Christmas Jar Project

Leave your Christmas jars on the sidewalk in front of the burned out furniture store between four and six PM on Christmas eve.

Many Families have a tradition of putting their loose change in a Christmas jar all year long. Before Christmas, they secretly put the jar on a strangers front porch.

This year, Tallassee has 15 to 18 people that are out of work because of the fire. They sure could use your Christmas jar.

It is never to late in the year to start a Christmas jar, if you don't already have one.

You can start one today. Put a bow on it. Dump your coins in it every night. In the two weeks leading up to Christmas eve, you might have a dollar or ten in change in the jar. Not much, but, if we get 1,000 or more people in Tallassee to leave jars for the fire victims it will make a big difference

Several Churches will be represented at the downtown fire site on Christmas eve. You are invited to leave your jar and join in a Christmas carol or two at 4:00 PM.

Be sure to tell all your friends.
Make sure the Christmas jar project is announced at every church service.

Let's show the world how great Tallassee is by having the biggest turnout ever at 4:00 pm on Christmas eve. Let's sing Silent Night at 4:00 _ edited to 4 but... see the comments below.

Note: The Hotel walls are unstable, you can not drop off the jars at the hotel. The jars for both the Hotel, and Smarty Pants may be left on the sidewalk in front of where the furniture store was.

It is a lot easier to be on Tallassee Times LIVE TV than you may think.

If you can watch this channel, then you already have the software to put your video on Tallassee Times TV.

You can put your video on the channel pre-recorded, or live.

Send any still picture(s) and a audio file (use windows recorder) to tallasseetimes@gmail.com.
Upload your pre recorded video to Youtube.com and send an email with a link to the video to tallasseetimes@gmail.com.

LIVE VIDEO.

Send an email to tallasseetimes@gmail.com and I will send instructions so we can arrange for a trial run. You will need a web cam. Many newer laptops have one built in, or you can use a USB or firewire web cam, some camcorders will also work. Don't worry if you don't know how to hook it up, I'll help you do that.

The actual procedure for going live is simple. I'll send you a link to a web page, a user name and a password. You just go to the page, and enter your user name and password. Your video will show up in the Tallassee Times TV studio. I'll call you on the phone to verify the audio and video is OK, then prompt you when it is time to go live, or I'll record your video to be played later.

You can host your own show, daily, weekly, monthly or do a one time special.

What sort of shows can you do?
Here are some ideas:

Daily - Lunchroom report, traffic report, school announcements, weather report, opinions, astrology, joke of the day, whats on TV.
Weekly, Church service, Arts and crafts, Drama Class, Self Defense, Fitness, Music, sports, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school, church or other organization calendar and announcements, report on your favorite TV series. With a speaker phone, you can even do a live call in show.
Monthly - Club meetings, hobbies Movie reviews.
Specials - Birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, holiday gatherings, parades, grand openings, dedications, fishing - hunting trips, vacations. Sports of all sorts, football, T-ball, Skate boarding, or whatever you want.

A special can be a one time event. It can be as short as a few seconds. For example, a picture of you family and a recording of them saying "Merry Christmas Tallassee from the (Jones) family."

You can do a video greeting card for Thanksgiving, Christmas, new years, or announce the birth of a child or a special birthday.

Trade Days

Today I am experimenting with ways to put video right on any web page.

First, Michael took a bunch of videos with a Sony camera. We loaded them into a laptop at the WTLS studio. Then I copied them to my laptop in Florida over the web, it took 11 hours, Ugh!
Next I used some Sony software and edited them into a montage and added music. The program output the video as a huge windows media file.

Finally, I uploaded the file to Livestream where it got converted to flash.

Now the video is in the Flash format, so we can see it on the LIVE TV channel. I also put it in the video on demand, you can see it by going to the top of the page, select the "ON-DEMAND" button, find "SPECIALS" and click on "Trade Days"

I then downloaded the flash file, and using the blogger editor, inserted the flash file into this blog entry.
Here is the result.... However, it will play much better if you turn off the "power" button in the channel viewer at the top of this page.

Here is the code that makes it show up on this page. You might be able to put this code on other web sites.

The above code might not work because Blogger.com might not allow your site to play video they have on their server.

So, Experiment TWO:

You can try embedding the code to put a Livestream player on your web page. Do this by going to the video player at the top of his blog. Select "ON-DEMAND" find the video you want to embed on your web page, then click on the embeded icon to the right of it's entry and follow the instructions.

This method not only puts the video on your web page, but it also lets the viewer brows for other videos available in the "ON-DEMAND area of Tallassee Times LIVE TV.

How to view our video

We want to make the video viewable for as many people as possible. We send out our video at speeds that should be easily handled on Bright House Cable or DSL.

If you can view YouTube videos, then your computer has the software to watch our video. If your computer does not have the required software, you will be prompted to install Flash, and / or Java. The installations only take a minute and are pretty much automatic.

If you see the video, audio and chat, but the video freezes or goes black once in a while, then here are some things you can do to improve your reception.:

Close down all other programs. This frees up your processor and memory so your computer can keep up with the video.

On a PC, look down at the clock in the lower right hand corner, If there are Icons to the clock's left, other than speaker and Internet connection, right click them and select exit if available. In particular exit the programs that check mail, search you drives, check for a camera.

If you are on a wireless connection, and a wired Ethernet connection is available use the wired connection.

If you are on a wireless connection, move closer to the wireless router to get a stronger signal.

Please note: If the video pauses once in a while when we play back prerecorded video or video on demand, but works when we are , then the problem is due to the Internet being busy. We are working on ways to improve that. You can tell it is playing prerecorded content if you see only "ON-AIR" at the bottom of the video screen. When you see "ON-AIR ", you should not experience any freezing. If you do, try closing you browser and go to our page again.

When we started this venture, just one month ago, you would have a hard time finding us on the web.
This morning I logged into the Livestream site, selected the sports category and looked for the most popular channels for the period covering the last 24 hours. Out of the 835 channels in that category, we ranked 17th in viewer minutes.

We had up to 135 viewers with 48 active chatters having a lively discussion.

Every day, we see an increase in the number of viewers.
As we work out the kinks in putting this channel together, we really appreciate the viewers who have watch us grow. We will continue to improve the WebCam channel.

Webcam Adds Another Element to Broadcasts

Staff Report
WTLS radio has been broadcasting Tallassee High School football games since 1954. Initially, the games were played on Saturday mornings only. In 1999 the broadcasts were aired live on Friday nights.
In the 2000's, games have been available through the internet, allowing people to listen anywhere in the world. Bright House Networks Cable TV Channel 15 also airs the broadcast, which begins at 6:00 with a one-hour pregame show and concludes with the "Scoreboard Show" at 11:00.
This season, a webcam has offered those who can not attend games on Friday nights, an option to view the action in real time. The web channel from WTLS, in conjunction with the Tallassee Times, is called Tallassee Times TV. It debuted during the preseason game with Tallassee and Wetumpka.

Other offerings include "Football Fridays," the weekly show with Tallassee Head Football Coach Rodney Dollar shot on location at ET's Subs and Salads on Gilmer Avenue at noon each week during football season. Plans are to produce other programs for the world wide web. WTLS hopes to have its daily morning shows; The Way of the Cross and The Wake-Up Call, on-line soon.
All programs are being saved to a directory. The on-demand library will allow people to watch recorded programs at their leisure. Since being launched less than two weeks ago, there have been more than 30,000 hits on the site.
